WASHINGTON (Indiana) – Starting with a three-page opening gatefold in a special Indiana section appearing with the July 2017 Site Selection magazine, the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) has started the execution of a strategic integrated outreach to decision makers. The integrated campaign will appear in both print and online.
“Since the late 1990s Daviess County has experienced some major growth in key sectors,” said Ron Arnold, DCEDC executive director. “When we learned that the Indiana Economic Development Corporation was planning a cooperative special section with Site Selection magazine, we felt it was time to tell our success story as a county.”
ODON, Indiana – Executives of the Virginia-based Alion Science and Technology company joined state and local officials at the WestGate at Crane Technology Park June 2 to mark progress of the all-new $4.3 million Alion facility in the park.

Governor Suzanne Crouch. She continued: “The future is bright. It is bright for NSWC Crane. It is bright for Hoosiers living here in the region. And it is bright for the state of Indiana.”
$750,000 three-year grant to create and fund Indiana Opioid Consortium with seven clinical and educational partners to address opioid epidemic at rural grassroots level
TERRE HAUTE, Indiana – A new Indiana Opioid Consortium is now gearing up to combat what its new director describes as a “a crisis that has exploded in Indiana and has severely impacted rural communities and residents.” Dr. Amnah Anwar, the program director of the new statewide consortium, said the crisis in the Hoosier state has reached “epidemic proportions.”
In addition to a renewed focus on prevention, the Consortium will focus on both incre
asing the availability of behavioral health services for individuals with Opioid-Use Disorder (OUD) in rural areas and helping ensure that professionals and community members associated with dedicated Opioid Treatment Facilities (physical and telehealth-based) have needed training and education tools.
Smithville constructs ‘a network that is built for the future’ in the WestGate@Crane Technology Park
ODON, Ind. – Purdue has tapped Smithville Fiber
to increase connectivity performance from its West Lafayette campus to the WestGate@CraneTechnology Park by upgrading existing fiber services at WestGate using Smithville’s advanced core network.
This new network architecture provides multiprotocol label switching to the customer edge supported by a 100-gigabit optical transport network. The Purdue Research Foundation manages WestGate Academy under the name Purdue@WestGate, and Smithville has been a partner providing high-speed internet connectivity to the Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette since 2009.
National Top 100 broadband company increases services in original fiber location
ELLETTSVILLE (Indiana) – Smithville, a nationally ranked Top 100 broadband company, began a $500,000 high-speed fiber expansion to 456 homes in the Ellettsville community in August. 
The project demonstrates Smithville’s commitment to advance fiber infrastructure in the greater Ellettsville area, where the company first launched its innovative fiber service in 2008. The expansion continues a year of Smithville-funded and -directed fiber projects in Monroe County, and the project is expected to create between 7-10 related jobs in Ellettsville.
INDIANAPOLIS – Mobile Drill International (MDI) has acquired U.S. Exploration Equipment (U.S. Ex) in a move that is expected to further strengthen Mobile Drill’s current market position and expand its growing capacity in the geotech drilling service industry. MDI has experienced solid growth over the past few years, expanding its market share both in the United States and abroad.
“U.S Ex provides MDI with an immediate sales increase to the tooling side of our business and furthers our company objective of providing unmatched value to the geotech drilling industry through our products and services,” said Tim Sabo, president.

WASHINGTON, Indiana – A new $2 million commercial rail cross-dock facility formally opened here November 15 and has already had a positive impact on business attraction, according to Phil O’Haver, vice chairman of the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC). The enclosed, all-weather climate-controlled 18,000 sq. ft. rail facility is the first rail expansion in Washington in decades and will be open to all commercial business in the broader region.
